La Reseña de la Reseña del Bar

 Dearest gentle law student,

We are back again with another Bar Review Review, and let me just say, so far in September we are forced to say “Is this peak?” every week because gosh darn it every week gets better and better. Despite catching some strays on the Bar Czar email (like in Finding Nemo, fish, *ahem* Bar Czars, are friends not food), we are happy to recap another week of debauchery.

The law students who know how to party the way Thomas Jefferson intended started the week at the Tyler Childers concert Monday night. Those who just moved to Charlottesville should be happy to know that the Charlottesville live music scene is recovering, nay, bustling, again. Luckily students didn’t have to dust off the cowboy boots since they were still warm from the hoedown on Saturday. We want to take this time to shout out those of you who used the concert as an excuse to get drunk on a Monday night: way to start the week off on a good foot. Bonus points to those who got drunk enough to wander the halls of law student residences (looking at you, Pav) in search of their secret rendezvous. A walk of shame on Tuesday morning is something for only the strongest soldiers.

The (excruciating) lull after Childers until bar review was filled by some with Nelly’s, where the regular 3Ls and 2Ls were in full attendance, and by others with Thursday Sip. That was until the stars aligned on that fateful Friday night.

As frat boys (used to?) say, “Friday night was a movie.” A buzz was in the air. The spread had put UVA as the underdogs to win against FSU, and  Scott Van Pelt picked UVA to cover the 6.5 point spread. Older double Hoos remembered 2019, when the Seminoles had been beaten by the Cavaliers before. The streets were flooded with blue and maroon, the traffic was as insufferable as ever, and law students were thrilled that their Friday night drinking could start at 5 p.m. comfortably. Many headed to the game after a robust tailgating showing, where they continued to drink beers and slowly realize that UVA’s offense was putting out quite a decent effort . . . so decent that we may just win this thing. As halftime came and went, the buzz became a thrill. The crowd started to gather and beat like a drum, surging against the dotted yellow-shirt event staff. As the game went into double overtime, the crowd became a mob, with more and more students let onto the hill. Finally, in double overtime, a pass from FSU was intercepted, and the students flooded the field with force that made national headlines. Go Hoos, Wahoowa!

That electric energy quickly made its way to Crozet for LALO’s Latin Night Bar Review, as the game ended just in time for students to get a free Sangria to top off their drunken stupor and dance the night away. Nayan’s (aka @nayansnotthere) DJ set was one for the history books, as he mixed latin tunes with house classics that led to one of the most crowded booths in Crozet history (do not fact check us please) and cemented his legacy as one of the great law school DJs (a successor to the recent greats DJ Luis and Dallas). The booth was rocking and so were we.

However, given the absolute chaos of the DJ booth that slowly got crowded with a range of rambunctious students from 1Ls to 3Ls, we have a word of advice. If you are new to the booth, welcome! Nobody likes when the music cuts out right? So here’s what we do, if we are too drunk to keep our drink from spilling, we step down and spill it on the dance floor amongst the people who will do you one better, and spill it on you in turn. Next, be mindful of the wires . . . liquids and sockets do not mesh, and neither do they and your dancing feet. And finally, have fun and shake what your mama (or papa, or parental figure) gave you. Don’t get up there and stare off into the distance like you’re Gatsby staring out at the water waiting to lock eyes and get the green light of your special someone. If you are in the booth, at least look like you’re having fun (and please wear deodorant). That being said, shoutout to UVA Law for showing up and showing out, proving our reputation as the “fun” law school that knows how to party while keeping our spot in the T4. Vibes were immaculate, and we hope you keep this energy up every bar review.

Well that is this week’s recap, next week keep your eyes peeled for a very special Bar Review Review as we cover the double headliner weekend which starts at the APALSA x SALSA Bar Review followed closely by the rebooted, real Foxfield Races. Until then, signing off . . .
