Dandelion Recap

A start to the new school year brings with it the annual tradition of Dandelion: the 1L dance competition which kicks off the softball season. What do softball and color-coordinated themed dances have to do with one another, you ask? The spirit, the sweat, the spectacle of it all.

On Saturday, August 30th, the Law School gathered outside the Park 1 softball fields to witness what the 1Ls had in store for them. This year, some changes to the format had been made. If the chaos of 300 law students in the sunlight-ridden parking lot wasn’t enough for you, this year, all the performances were in a randomized order. The section themes were really put to the test. Some emerged victorious with a clear vision. Others may have needed a once-over or a complete reimagining.

A huge congratulations to Section D for pulling off not just one theme successfully, but two, and for topping it all off with a jump split and a Dirty Dancing lift. (Now you’re just showing off.) While some Dandelion results have been contentious in the past, the energy during that performance was hard to forget. A shoutout to second and third place (Section B and Section A, respectively), for getting the acclaim without the obligation to play a softball game. Beyond the competition, Dandelion did what it does best: set the tone. The chants, the coordinated chaos, the unmistakable aura of way-too-much-effort for the most outrageous of traditions—it was all a reminder of what this Law School is all about.

See you on the softball field.
